Plans to extend turn lanes in Evansville are back on | News
EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE)- After several delays, plans are back on track to alleviate some traffic headaches around a busy Evansville intersection.
The Vanderburgh county Engineer says they'll be extending the northbound turn lanes on Burkhardt at Virginia.
Adding turn lanes on both Virginia St. approaches and adding a northbound right turn lane at Columbia St.
They'll also be realigning the southbound left turn lane into two shopping centers south of Virginia St.
The County Engineer, John Stoll, says the plan is for construction to begin next spring with work wrapped up prior to the 2014 Christmas season.
"We've got a high volume of traffic generated by all of the shopping centers," says Stoll.
"Everyone that drives that area knows that on a daily basis and especially during the Christmas holidays when all the shoppers are out on Burkhardt road corridor, so it will help that but like I said, unfortunately it won't fix every problem simple because there just aren't enough lanes on Virginia street."
The next step of the project is to acquire some additional property in the area that the county will need to make the road changes.
