Memorial Day ceremony honors fallen heroes | News
On Memorial Day, people across the country, and in the Tri-State, honored our veterans.
At Oak Hill Cemetery, they paid homage to our fallen heroes by reading some of the names of those who have died in combat, along with a 21-gun salute and taps.
Folks also got to hear a rendition of the gettysburg address, as well as patriotic music from the Red Bank Reunion Band and Kylindi Pipes and Drum Squad.
14 News spoke with one veteran whose birthday is on the original Memorial Day, May 30.
"It was special in effect that it was a birthday celebration, but the real meaning of what Memorial Day is, it's not the parties, it's tradition that started way before our time. Its the honoring our veterans and honoring our deceased veterans. It's just something we have to do," veteran Joe Misuraca says.
Misuraca says this was the fourth ceremony he took part in this weekend and he truly enjoys all of them.
