EPD closes Wesselman Park Tuesday afternoon due to suicide | News
EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE)- Wesselman Park is back open after police closed the park due to a suicide.
Shortly after noon on Tuesday, police were called to the park and shut the north end off for over 2 hours.
A man at the neighboring golf course heard the shot and discovered the body.
Police say danger to the public was low, but the location of the suicide could have affected park visitors.
"The emotional impact that this could have is high though," said Sgt. Jason Cullum, Evansville Police Dept. "We had a grown man heard what's going on and discovered it, but it could have easily been a family with small kids. So, that's something we do have to worry about when you come into a public place and there's been an event like that," he said.
The Evansville Police Department dispatched one of their chaplains to help family members at the scene.
