Training pays off for dogs, handlers at Obedience Club event

The Evansville Obedience Club hosted its annual July obedience, rally, and agility competition July 8-10 at the Metro Sports Center.

The three one-day trials gave exhibitors from at least five different states the opportunity to compete with their dogs in an indoor air-conditioned facility.

Each event requires three qualifying scores to title a dog, and for some, it can be done in a weekend such as this.

Judges from Illinois, Michigan, and Florida were on hand to determine the winners and the qualifiers.

Exhibitors from Louisville, St. Louis, Nashville, and other surrounding areas came to compete.

The event has become one of EOC’s most popular over the past six years.

Agility:
Two dog and handler teams earned the PACH (Preferred Agility Championship)   - Cathi Blackburn with Legend (a Belgian Tervuren) and Jean Fisher with Georgia (Shetland Sheepdog.  Two MACHs were earned (Master Agility Championship) -  Vivian Hudson with  Bizzy (Cocker Spaniel) and Jim Wolfe with Alec (Standard Poodle).

Obedience:
The High in Trials for obedience were all earned by the same dog and handler team - Curt Brock and Key (Golden Retriever).
