Scammer's sob story turns out to be a dog | Crime
A PetSmart shopper told Evansville Police he was approached by a man inside the store who sold him a gift card that didn't have any money on it.
The 71-year-old victim told police the man who sold him the card approached him on Sunday afternoon and claimed his dog was dying and appeared very upset. He said he'd sell the $25 card for $20 and the victim felt sorry for him and agreed to the deal.
At the checkout, however, the victim learned there was no credit on the card.
After hearing the victim's description of the man, store management told him the same man pulled the same trick last week. No arrests have been made but police took a description of the man and the victim said he'd press charges if the scam artist could be located.
