Victim:  Would be robber threatened to shoot me

 

A 33-year-old Evansville man says he was the victim of an armed robbery Monday night.

Police say the man told them he was outside Normandy Plaza Apartments on the east side a little after 7 when a man pulled a gun on him and demanded money.

The victim didn’t produce any cash and says the suspect then grabbed his cell phone and broke it so he couldn’t call police.

The suspect threatened to shoot the victim but instead, he left the area and wasn’t around when police arrived.

The investigation is continuing.

A 32-year-old Evansville woman was arrested for shoplifting and battery after a store security officer at the Target Greatland store off Burkhardt Road and the Lloyd reported an incident to police Sunday.

The employee told investigating officers that Andrea Michelle Hargrove came into the store Sunday afternoon.  The security officer says she kept a close eye on Andrea Michelle Hargrove because of prior incidents, then watched her place items in a cart and walk out the door without paying.

Two Henderson women were arrested after scuffling with store security at Gordman's Department Store Monday morning.

A report from Evansville police says officers were called to the store at 6200 E. Lloyd Expressway around 10:45.  

Two store employees she watched a woman put a pair of shoes down her pants, walk past the cash register and into the double doors.  The two employees asked the woman to come back inside but she kept walking.

The two workers grabbed the woman and, according to police, "the struggle was on".  

One woman bit one of the store employees and scratched her on her arm and chest.

A PetSmart shopper told Evansville Police he was approached by a man inside the store who sold him a gift card that didn't have any money on it.  

The 71-year-old victim told police the man who sold him the card approached him on Sunday afternoon and claimed his dog was dying and appeared very upset.  He said he'd sell the $25 card for $20 and the victim felt sorry for him and agreed to the deal.  

At the checkout, however, the victim learned there was no credit on the card.

East side burglaries continuing

Evansville Police continue to get reports of residential burglaries on the east side despite several arrests during their on-going investigations.

Police are asking the public to help watch their own neighborhoods and to call 911 to report any suspicious activity. There have been several reports from homeowners about people knocking on their doors in the evening and offering home improvement services. The homeowners thought it was suspicious because there were no work trucks and the person did not have any tools or items that identified them as a worker for any company.

Woman struggles but purse thief wins

An east side woman told Evansville Police she was the victim of a purse snatching outside her apartment complex.

Police say it happened a little after 9 p.m. Monday on East Franklin, near Swonder Ice Arena.

The 56-year-old woman said she was accosted by a man as she got out of her vehicle.  They struggled for the purse and the strap broke, but the white male suspect grabbed it and ran away.

Detectives arrived to process the scene and the investigation continues.

Neighborhood complaints lead to pot busts

Evansville Police have arrested three men on drug charges during a follow up on neighborhood complaints in the 7600 block of Washington Avenue.

Officers were doing extra patrols in the area due to complaints of loud music, a lot of vehicle traffic late at night, and multiple reports of cars driving off the roadway in recent nights. The officers saw a car parked facing the wrong way on Washington. There was also loud music coming from inside the car.
