Author Ashton Lee to visit EVPL branch

Ashton Lee, author of The Cherry Cola Book Club, will visit McCollough Branch Library on Monday, June 3rd at 6:30 pm.  Lee will speak about his work, answer your questions, and sign copies of his book. 

The Cherry Cola Book Club tells the story of a small Southern community that comes together to save their public library.  Published by Kensington Books and gaining rave reviews, Lee’s book sharply defines the role that libraries play in community life.

Whether your art choice is sketching, watercolors, or photography, you’re invited to an inaugural series of art, architecture, and history celebrating the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library’s Centennial and Historic Preservation Month.

On three Saturdays in May, join the EVPL and Evansville’s Historic Preservation Services Office for A Brush with History Art Strolls through three of the city’s historic areas.

University of Evansville Opera to Perform "The Magic Flute" This Weekend

 

A dragon, an evil queen, a trio of spirits, and love at first sight are just a few of the elements that make up W.A. Mozart’s beloved opera The Magic Flute, which University of Evansville students will perform this weekend.

Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. April 19 and 20 in UE’s Wheeler Concert Hall. Tickets are $10 for general admission and free to UE students with ID. Tickets may be purchased at the door or reserved by calling the Department of Music at 812-488-2754.

Local Artists' "Global Experiences" Showcased in UE's Melvin Peterson Gallery

The University of Evansville’s Department of Art is proud to present “Global Experiences,” an exhibition featuring the work of three local artists: paintings by Cedric Hustace, photographs by Jim McKinney, and ceramics by David Rodenberg.

The show, which includes 44 works inspired by the artists’ international travels, will run from January 14-February 20 in the Melvin Peterson Gallery, located on the corner of Lincoln and Weinbach avenues.

Cedric Hustace, an Evansville artist and Hawaii native, has had work displayed in numerous locations around the Tri-State (including banks, corporate offices, government buildings, and galleries) and in private collections across the United States and worldwide.

Free 2012 UE Holiday Pops Concert set for Tuesday

The Department of Music at the University of Evansville will host its 33rd annual Holiday Pops concert next week. This festive celebration of the holiday season will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 4 at the Victory Theatre in downtown Evansville. The concert is free and open to the public.

Holiday Pops brings together ensembles and soloists to perform holiday favorites. The evening includes performances by the University’s choirs, orchestra, and wind and jazz ensembles.

Austin Tenbarge, a senior at William Henry Harrison High School has been selected by Music for All to be a member of the Bands of America Honor Band in the 2013 Tournament of Roses Parade. Austin was selected from among hundreds of applicants across the nation for membership in this prestigious national honor band. Austin is the son of Kenneth Tenbarge and Dr. David and Jami Carlson. His band director is Mr. Robert Cason.

The BOA Honor Band is a 325 piece national ensemble with winds, percussion and a flag and dance team. Bob Buckner, who recently retired as director of the Western Carolina University “Pride of the Mountains” Marching Band, will direct the 2013 BOA Honor Band. Bands of America is a program of Music for All, one of the nation’s largest and most influential organizations in support of active music making.

Tenbarge, an Alto Saxaphone player, will spend a week in southern California, where he will have rehearsals, performances at the Tournament of Roses Bandfest and Disneyland, special activities and a featured appearance in the world-famous parade. The 124th Rose Paradeis  themed “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” and will take place on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at 10 a.m. Evansville time. The 5.5-mile parade (which is often referred to as the “Rose Bowl Parade”) will be broadcast on 14WFIE.

Bosse High School will perform two, one-act plays Friday, Nov. 9, and Saturday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m. Performances will include “The Patient,” by Agatha Christie and “Making Nice,” by Alan Haehnel. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.
