Baseball pairings announced

The Mt. Vernon Wildcats will take on Gibson Southern in the opening round of the Class 3A IHSAA Baseball Sectional later this month.  Both teams received first round byes. 

Bosse and Memorial open the tournament at the University of Evansville with Princeton vs. Boonville to follow.  Whichever team emerges from that group will play the Mt. Vernon-Gibson Southern winner Monday, May 28 (Memorial Day) at 7 p.m.

Holy Rosary Summer Social starts Thursday; with food, games, vehicle raffle

The Holy Rosary Catholic Church Summer Social returns this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the church on South Green River Road, across from Washington Square Mall.

Rides, games for all ages, bingo, quilts, food and other attractions are planned.

Dinners featuring family style fried chicken and pork chops with all the trimmings will be served nightly in the cafeteria from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with a drive thru carryout available in the Parish Hall.

Items are needed for the sale.  Large or small items can be dropped off at Reliable Care, 5130 Vogel Road.

Seed sales to benefit Alzheimer's Association

Volunteers from the Evansville Bankers Life and Casualty Company branch sales office take to the streets on May 18 and 19, to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association in the company’s 10th annual Forget Me Not Days event.

Employees and agents from Bankers will collect donations in cities across the United States. Wearing distinctive green gardening aprons, they’ll hand out packets of Forget-Me-Not flower seeds to donors, encouraging them to plant the seeds in honor of the estimated 5.4 million Americans with Alzheimer’s disease.

For members of the community interested in making a donation, Evansville Bankers volunteers will be collecting donations on May 18 & 19 at Schnucks 3501 N. Green River Rd.  from 10:00 am. to 6:00  pm.

Adopt a Highway looking for help

The Indiana Department of Transportation is seeking dedicated individuals or groups to join our Adopt-A-Highway program which helps significantly reduce the roadside trash problem throughout Indiana.

INDOT’s Adopt-A-Highway program coordinates with community and service groups that provide highway trash and litter pick-up in local areas. The program helps clean up our state roads and U.S. routes as well as improves the look of Indiana’s communities.

Three arrested for pilfering lawn equipment

Evansville Police have arrested three people on burglary and theft charges.

Officers say they responded to 16 N Frederick St. for a burglary in progress late last week. Arriving officers saw a truck leaving the scene and made a traffic stop. During the stop, officers say they found a lawn mower and a weed eater taken from the garage at the Frederick St. home.

Lone Star re-opens; clinics continue

The  Vanderburgh County Health Department says it is continuing to vaccinate those who may have been exposed to Hepatitis A while eating at the Lone Star Steakhouse.

Lone Star reopened Saturday afternoon after voluntarily closing last week, and local health officials are encouraging anyone who ate there between April 29 and May 3 to get a free vaccination at the Vanderburgh County Health Department.
